Day 1

МEXICO

Meeting at the airport with a Russian speaking guide and transfer to the 5* hotel.

Day 2

MEXICO, THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ANTHROPOLOGY – TEOTIHUACAN

A sightseeing tour of Mexico includes a visit to the historic city center Zocalo and the ruins of the ancient ritual center of the Aztec Templo Mayor. Here,you will also find the largest Mexican Catholic Cathedral and the National (Presidential) Palace, which interior was decorated by the famous Mexican mural artist Diego Rivera. You will visit the National Museum of Anthropology – one of the richest museums of Latin America. Its collection consists of numerous archaeological and ethnographic exhibits from all the regions of Mexico presenting the unique variety of the country’s culture. Later – an excursion to the archaeological Teotihuacan complex with its main sights: Pyramid of the Sun, Pyramid of the Moon, The Avenue of the Dead and the Temple of the Feathered Serpent with an ornament in the form of snake heads. Return to the 5* hotel in Mexico. 

*The National Palace is not always open for visits. We reserve the right to skip a visit to the Palace on the occasion of activities at the central Zocalo Square, visits of officials and other circumstances that may affect the palace closure.

Day 3

MEXICO – PUEBLA – OAXACA

After breakfast you will go from the capital city to Puebla enjoying the unique landscapes of the Central Mexico on the way. Here they are – the famous volcanoes of Mexico: active volcano Popocatepetl, dormant volcano Orizaba Peak and the extinct volcano Iztaccihuatl! You will reach Puebla – the biggest city of Mexico, its most significant cultural, historical, scientific and economic center.

Puebla is famous for its beautiful architecture, unsurpassed cuisine and bright and skillful talavera pottery.  

On the same day you will have a trip to one more stunning city and a sample of colonial architecture – Oaxaca. The night excursion around the city. Accommodation in a 4* in Oaxaca. 

Day 4

OAXACA – MONTE ALBAN – THULE

In the morning you will have a tour to Monte Alban - one of the first cities of Mesoamerica founded around 500 B. C. Throughout a thousand years, Monte Alban has been the most important political, cultural and economic center of the Zapotec civilization whose culture reached extraordinary development. The discovery of this city has been equated by some scientists to the discovery of Troy. On the way to Tehuantepec you will make a stop near a tree with the largest diameter in the world – Thule. The age of this huge cypress is more than 2000 years, and the diameter at the base reaches 14 meters! In the evening you will arrive to Tehuantepec or Salina Cruz and stay in a 4* hotel.

Day 5

CANYON DEL SUMIDERO - SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS

After breakfast you will go through the mountains of the Sierra Madre to the Canyon del Sumidero. The scenic canyon stretches for a distance of 30 kilometers, and its walls reach up to 1,000 meters in height. Here the river Grijalvaon flows, along which you will take a boat trip. On the way you will see crocodiles lurking in the coastal waters, monkeys swinging on the branches of trees, and other representatives of fauna, as well as enjoy the variety of flora.

In the course of the day you will arrive in a 4* hotel in the San Cristobal de Las Casas high in the mountains – one of the first settlements founded by the colonizers.

Today this colonial town attracts a lot of guests by the charm of its streets, ancient houses and churches and variety of folk souvenirs. Here you can go for a night walk around the town. Night at the 4* hotel.

Day 6

SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS – SAN JUAN CHAMULA – MISOL-HA – PALENQUE

After breakfast you will visit a small Indian town San Juan Chamula near San Cristobal De Las Casas. The place is famous for a bizarre mixture of Christian and pagan beliefs and traditions among the local population – descendants of the Tzotzil Indians. You will become witnesses of an ancient rituals performed in the central Cathedral of St. John the Baptist where the Catholic prayers are read in dialects of the Maya, and Coke is revered as a sacred drink. On the same day you will go downhill from the cold tops of The Sierra Lacandona to see a delightful waterfall Misol-Ha. Here you will swim and refresh before your trip to Palenque. In the evening you will arrive in Palenque and stay in a 4* hotel. 

Day 7

PALENQUE – CAMPECHE

Breakfast in the hotel. Today you will visit some of the most spectacular archaeological ruins of the Mayan civilization – Palenque. You will have plenty of time to admire the structure of this amazing place, buried in the tropical greenery of the upcoming jungle. Further on, you are expected to move to a friendly colonial town-port Campeche. 

Today Campeche is one of the few cities in Mexico that has preserved the fortifications built during the Spanish domination. You are recommended to go on a trip around the city by a tour tram. Accommodation in the 4* hotel in Campeche or in the neighborhood.

Day 8

CAMPECHE – UXMAL – MERIDA

After breakfast you will go to the ancient Mayan city of Uxmal – a magnificent example of Puuc style architecture, The town has not lost its charm nowadays either. The next destination of your trip is the capital of the state Yucatan and the cultural center – Merida. 

A special attraction for tourists is the Square of Independence and Paseo del Montejo – the main boulevard with European style luxury villas built at the end of the XIX – beginning of the XX centuries. Accommodation in a 4 * hotel in Merida. 

ONLY FROM JANUARY TO MARCH 2017 THE STANDARD ROUTE INCLUDES A VISIT TO THE PRESERVE OF PINK FLAMINGOS – CELESTUN (AT NO ADDITIONAL COST!)

On the way from Uxmal to Merida, we will make a stop in Celestun – a small village to the west of the Yucatan Peninsula, on the Gulf Coast. Here you will visit the biosphere preserve of magnificent pink flamingos and enjoy the large colony of these amazing birds that graze in the shallow waters near the narrow spit that separates the bay from the lagoon. Your flat-bottomed vessel will quietly approach the flock so that you can enjoy the stunning close-up of the birds. During the boat ride you will also go deep into the mangroves which form a kind of scenic canopy over the waters of the river.

Day 9

MERIDA – CHICHEN ITZA – IK KIL – CANCUN

After breakfast you will go to Chichen Itza – the main political and ceremonial center of the Mayan culture on the Yucatan peninsula. The major sight of the city is the pyramid of Kukulkan included in the list of the Seven New Wonders of the World. You will also see the Observatory, the Temple of Warriors, a vast field for the sacred ball game Pok-ta-Pok and so on. After visiting Chichen Itza, you will move to the Cenote Ik-Kil – a beautiful underground lake – to swim and relax before the trip to the coast of the Caribbean Sea. Then you will be transferred to Cancun and the Riviera Maya! Planned arrival time – around 6 p. m.

The tour Grand Mexico is a great and exciting journey to the roots of the culture and traditions of Mexico. You will visit the famous sights of the capital city district and the south-east of the country, watch the exotic natural diversity and richness of flora and fauna, try the exceptional gastronomy of regions and bring home bright and incomparable souvenirs. We recommend not to schedule flights from Cancun on the last day of the tour and stay in the hotel for at least one night. If you need to depart on the same day, you should book the flights departing not earlier than at 9 p. m. The check-in at the airport starts 2-3 hours before the departure!
